Frequently asked questions
Questions are part of learning.
Start with the essentials below. If your question is personal to your health, equipment or experience, contact the coach directly.

Getting Started
Am I too old to start?+
No. The first Never 2 Late Hockey group included adults from 19 to 70 years old. Progress looks different for every participant, but age alone does not disqualify you from learning.
Do I need hockey experience?+
No hockey background is required. The program explains equipment, rink language, basic rules and skills from the beginning without assuming you already know how the game works.
Do I need to know how to skate?+
You do not need hockey skating experience. Basic independent forward movement is helpful, but the coach can discuss your current level and whether a skating lesson before the program would make your first weeks more comfortable.
Is the program co-ed?+
Yes. Adults learn together in a respectful co-ed setting. The culture is supportive, non-contact and focused on personal progress rather than comparison.
Will everyone be at the same level?+
Not exactly. Beginners arrive with different skating, fitness and sport backgrounds. Drills are scaled so participants can work on the same theme at an appropriate pace.
Are goalies included?+
Goalie participation depends on the goals and space available in each group. If you want to learn the position or already have beginner goalie equipment, contact the coach before registering.
What happens after the 10 weeks?+
You will leave with a practical next step based on your progress—another skills group, beginner shinny, continued skating work or entry-level recreational hockey when you are ready.
Safety & Fitness
Is there body checking?+
No. Instruction and controlled game play are non-contact. Safe spacing, awareness and respect for other participants are expected throughout the program.
What will I practise during an on-ice session?+
Sessions focus on skating fundamentals, puck control, passing, shooting and beginner game situations. Guided drills help you build skills progressively, with instruction adapted to different abilities.
Do I need to be in good shape?+
You do not need to arrive in peak condition. Exercises are scaled to individual ability, and the program builds capacity progressively. Speak with a qualified health professional if you have concerns about beginning exercise.
What if I am injured or have a mobility limitation?+
Contact the coach before registering and describe the limitation honestly. Reasonable adjustments may be possible, but the program must remain safe for you and the group and cannot replace medical advice or rehabilitation.
Equipment
What equipment do I need?+
Full hockey equipment is required: skates, certified helmet and face protection, neck protection, shoulder and elbow pads, gloves, hockey pants, athletic protector, shin guards, socks, jersey and stick. Review the Equipment page before buying.
Can I rent or borrow equipment?+
Availability varies and should never be assumed. Contact the program early for current local rental, used-equipment or borrowing options, and always confirm that borrowed protective equipment fits correctly.
Registration & Attendance
When will the next program run?+
Never 2 Late Hockey is planning to return from spring through summer 2027. Exact dates, session times and fees are still to be determined. Contact Coach Devon now to reserve a spot in the Spring 2027 program.
What if I miss a session?+
There may be an option to pick up a session with another group if a slot is available. If you know you cannot make a date, reach out and the program will do its best to accommodate you.
Can I join after the program has started?+
Because skills build from week to week, late entry is normally available only with coach approval. The better option may be to join the next program if the current group is already underway.
Can my partner or friend join with me?+
Absolutely, provided space is available. Many adults feel more comfortable starting with someone they know—and many make new friends after they arrive.
How do I register?+
Reservations are being accepted for the Spring 2027 program now. Use the contact form or email dwestby@never2latehockey.com to request a place. Once the schedule is finalized, the program will provide dates, fees, policies, waivers and final confirmation directly.
